The Eumorpha Series

The Eumorpha Series is a collection of paintings I started working on in the fall of 2020, and which I continue adding to as new pieces are completed.

As the name would suggest, Eumorpha meaning “Good Form”, the works within this series concern themselves primarily with traditional formal aesthetics (for those genre inclined I would characterize them as Neo-Abstract-Expressionism, lying somewhere adjacent to the works of Agnes Martin or Rothko).

The primary technique used for these pieces involves a two layered multi-media process, using an underlying collage decorated with a top layer of oil paint. The collage elements are taken from a wide variety of sources including old Comp-Sci papers collected from my time at Charles university, monthly Prague newspapers delivered un-solicited to my apartment, and even generative cellular-automata patterns from my thermal printer.
